Christmas Update

Well, the countdown to Christmas is well and truly moving quickly. We're trading all the way up to 7pm Christmas Eve and hopefully Santa will remember to swing by and pick up all his lay-bys.

We have a lot of bikes to build (and store) between now and Christmas, so the workshop is fully booked until the New Year. If you need any small jobs done please ring to check if we have time to do any repairs.

Single Speed Sale

For the rest of 2009 we are having a sale on all of our single speed bikes. We are taking 15% off all of our single speed adult bikes in stock. That includes all of the Charge Plugs, Grinders and Cruisers.

Also, don't forget that we have heaps of accessories to customise your existing bike.

Garmin Edge 705

Wembley Cycles is now an authorised dealer for Garmin GPS hardware. Specifically, the Garmin Edge 705. Packed with features, it is a brilliant little GPS unit that lets you know just about everything you need to know about what and how you are riding. Not only does it let you map your rides, but it can also measure your heart rate, cadence and even power! The Edge 705 is a fantastic training tool for all kinds of cyclists and best of all, we have them in stock right now. They make an excellent Christmas present for the cyclist who thinks they have everything. We'll have reviews soon enough as 3 staff members have purchased them and are putting them through their paces on the road and in the dirt.

Dusk Till Dawn 12 Hour Race.

The 2009 Alcoa Dusk till Dawn 12hour MTB Challenge was run and done this past weekend. Wembley Cycles had two teams running and several more of our regular customers also organised teams. It was a brilliantly run event and throughout the night and into the morning there was many happy mountain bikers out on course. The Wembley Cycles Average Joes (John Carney, Steve Courtice and Dan O'Kane) came second in the three man category, right behind the overall winners, the Trailblazers. In the overall standings the Average Joes came third after a four man team managed to sneak in an extra half lap over us, oh to have fresh legs like those guys did! Still, as the best placed corporate team, the Average Joes took home the inaugural Avanti Corporate Challenge Trophy.


As summer heats up it is an awesome time to do some night riding after work. We're in the process of creating a regular Wednesday night ride out at Mt Gungin. Give the shop a call if you're interested in coming along.

Specialized Test Fleet in store now.

We recently received our demo bikes from Specialized. We have a medium size Stumpjumper FSR and a large size Enduro FSR. All the mountain bikers on staff have test ridden the bikes and experimented with the particulars of the FSR suspension set-up, so, when you arrange a demo ride we'll be able to set you up pretty quickly and get you onto the trails.

Don't forget that we also have a medium size Yeti 575 available for test rides.

Call the shop on 9387 3708 to book your test ride. You must present to staff a valid West Australian drivers license and credit card in order to borrow a test bike.

We've got a few sets of the top of the range bib knicks from both Louis Garneau and Pearl Izumi in store right now. They're expensive, but oh so worth it. They breath better, they transfer moisture better, they feel better and they fit better than what you're currently riding around in. Come down and try some on today.

Specialized.

Wow, it has been a long time since our last update. Since we started opening until 6pm we've been really, really busy. Our service department is currently booking jobs in a full week ahead of time. As the sun stays out longer and longer, the workshop is only going to get busier. If you're thinking of getting work done on your bike, it will pay to plan ahead and book your bike in.

New Opening Hours

Just a short note to let everybody know that we are extending our trading hours starting today. We'll be staying open 30 minutes longer on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, from 9am till 6pm. We're still open until 7pm on Thursdays and from 9am to 5pm on Saturday.

Yeti ASR-Carbon

The Yeti ASR Carbon is on the front cover of the current Australian Mountain Bike magazine. It is an amazing looking bike that builds up incredibly light.

Though we don't have a Carbon ASR in the shop right now, we do have a couple of 575s, an ASR, an ARC hardtail and the brand new ASR SEVEN.

I just found the DPI's webpage that contains all of their maps for cycling routes in Perth. They are available to download as a pdf document which can be opened by any PC that has Adobe Acrobat Reader or Mac users can open them with Preview.

I've also included a link to the website in the 'Websites' section of this page which is on the right side of the screen.

The wheels are available as pairs only. These wheels are designed for fixies only, if you want a machined sidewall on the rims so that you can run rim brakes then there is an extra charge of $10 per wheel. We've just had a few more really cool bikes turn up at Wembley Cycles. The Indi Cruz is a single speed cruiser style bicycle that comes complete with mud guards and a rear rack. This photo was taken at the recent 4 hour Challenge race at the Goatfarm race course. John placed 5th in the solo category, completing six laps in 3:59:22. Not bad considering that his brand new 2009 Yeti ASR was built the day before the race!

I went out for my first mountain bike ride of 2009 and ended up with my first injury of 2009!
I was riding my Giant Glory Expert and had a ball doing lots of jumps and descending some fast, rock filled singletrack. I wish all our customers the best of luck in 2009 and hopefully you won't have any crashes like me!
